  1. Tiny plant Lemna minor found floating on the
  2. surface of still water throughout most of the
  3. world, except the polar regions and tropics.
  4. Each plant consists of a flat circular
  5. leaf-like structure 0.4 cm/0.15 in or less
  6. across, with a single thin root below up to
  7. 15 cm/6 in long. The plant buds off new
  8. individuals, and can soon cover the surface
  9. of the water. Flowers rarely appear but when
  10. they do, they are minute and sited in a
  11. pocket at the edge of the plant.
